Thank God it’s Friday! Looking forward to the Walkathon to support Cancer patients in Evansville tomorrow, Tonya signed Josh, Michael her and me up. Afterwards we might hangout at the mall and then head back to the pumpkin fest in Owensboro. That might sound kinda weird for you but it seems to be a big thing.
I’m gonna spend the Sunday with Jodey, we have to get birthday gifts for Tonya.

There is not much to tell about this week so far..
After seven (I guess) weeks of being here I have come into a routine now. At the beginning everything was new and exciting, I got to see a lot of new things, at school everybody asked where I’m from and if I like it here. Now things are changing, the days are all almost the same (except from the weekends). My accent isn’t an attraction anymore – I’m glad :) – and people at school are getting used to my presence. There are still new things to discover but not as many as there were first.
Running is confidence and confidence is preparation.
September 12th, 2011 by MagdalenaSitting in Arts Class and reviewing the weekend. If somebody had told me a few months ago that I can run 5K under 25 minutes I would have said: “You’re such a weirdo I never ever can do that!” .. or something like that.
But that’s exactly what coach Fortney told me a few minutes before the race on Saturday, and he was right, I did 24.32. Even though it is nothing compared with the times of the other girls, it is a good performance for me. I am happy with the result, I don’t care which place I accomplished.
I started doing what I like to do, I tried my best and worked hard, I followed coach Fortney’s instructions but did also something that I thought is right to do. At the end of the race I was running next to Kathy and I decided not to sprint like I could at the last meters but to finish together with her.
The problem is that my shins are hurting as they never did, Tonya is taking me to the doctor today after schoo. She tried to prepare me what he might say, Heidi had the very same thing twice while she was running Track at High School. We will see..
However, after a shopping tour in Evansville on Saturday I have now my outfit for Friday completed. We bought the tickets today and Jonah told me we are havindg dinner at Olive garden, that means fake Italian, before the dance. Yeah I am getting excited!
On Sunday Martin, Tonya’s exchange student from Denmark, called her, so I also had the opportunity to talk to him. It was really funny, he told me a bunch of stories and what I can exspect at Thanksgiving or Christmas. :-)
But we also talked about something I was thinking for a while now and he told me he did that too.
If you are an exchange student you leave home, your parents, friends, teachers and everybody you ever asked for help at decisions. You come in a new world with new rules, new people you can trust and ask for help but you are still representing your culture, your education and at every decision you have to make you also think what your parents or friends at home would recommend you to do.
That might sound weird to you but it is a part of being an exchange student.. :-)
So I hope everybody had a great weekend and my sister, cousins and friends at home a good first school day today!

Doch mir bleibt nicht viel Zeit an daheim zu denken – dreimal schon ist Coach Fortney heute zu mir gekommen, um mich an alles moegliche zu erinnern: be at Yello Creek at 7.30am tomorrow, don’t forget to bring your spikes, start the race patient, try to keep up with the main group, speed up after 3K, push yourself at the last K.
A lot to remember, oh my gosh, but the girls said it will be so much fun! After the race we are going dress shopping in Evansville with Jodey and Heidi and in the evening we are having dinner @ Dale Fall Fest.
On Sunday we are attending the 10-year memorial of 11-9.
Hope everybody at home will have a good weekend and a good school start on Monday.

It has been a while that I haven’t posted anything, I was very busy.. Last week we had school spirit week, that means that there was a specific dresscode every day, like faked injury day, favorite teacher day, Apollo day and Daviess County Showdown. On Friday we had the biig football game against the Apollo eagles, our biggest rivals.
I missed this game because Tonya and Josh took me on a weekend trip to St. Louis, MO. Tonya put us on a schedule haha, therefore we saw a lot of things: the zoo, Grant’s farm, Anheuser-Busch, downtown and of course the arch. It is 192m tall and there is an elevator to the top. We had an incredible view over St.Louis from there.
As soon as we came home and had all our camping stuff packed we left for Lincoln State Park, Santa Clausa, Indiana, where we camped with Tonya’s parents and her sister’s family. We had a good time – with a lot of fun, savory bbq and American breakfast and a rainy night in the tent (it was my first time sleeping in a tent with Tonya, Josh, Michael aand Bocephus).
However on Tuesday I had to go back to school and practice, my first race is getting close, I am very excited!!

I did very well in the workout yesterday, coach Fortney is happy, yay! That means no pm practice today. We were running in the morning through the school to motivate the people to come and watch the competition tomorrow. It was fun, even though we don’t think that many students will come. Everybody is going to watch football tonight, but the football team’s chances to win tonight are much smaller than our chances to win the teams’ ranking tomorrow.

School is going well, but it is getting busy. I had a my first Calculus test today and am having Arts & Humanities and English vocab test on Friday. My cross country team had the first meeting in Yellow Creek yesterday.
We were successful: we won the team competition and Kentucky won the “Border Clash” against Indiana. The coach is happy, so we are all hoping that practice today won’t be that exhausting. Anyway we are getting excited for our first home meeting, the 6K relay in Yellow Creek on Saturday. Unfortunately I am not allowed to participate yet but I’m going to watch our team.
Saturday night Tonya, Josh and I are going to the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville, i am looking forward. Damian was there last weekend and he said it was awesome.

Yeah it is Friday again! Today morning at school I thought to be in an American movie, all the students were sitting on the stands in the gym divided in Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniores and Seniores. The cheerleaders, school band and dance team performed. I was sitting next to my advocate teacher on the Juniores’ side when the principal suddenly welcomed the Freshmen and exchange students to our school. It was awesome he said mine and Damian’s name (exchange student from Switzerland), but then my teacher sent us down to the principal and all the other students acclaimed, it was so embarassing for us. But now everybody from the school seems to know us haha :)
We had early release too, but unfortunately the English vocab test in the last period went not that good. However the weekend is here now, I am looking forward to going to the Tailgate party tonight and to watching my first football game.
GO PANTHERS, I believe in RED!

First school day after a funny boating day is over. Yesterday i tried to water ski – it was my first time and it is much more difficult than it looks like. Tubing is easier and much more fun!
School is still difficult, some classes are boring though but i started practising cross country. I am not used to run far distances but they have a very good group with awesome coaches and motivated athletes, they said they will bring me in a better shape ;)
It was good to meet new people, they are really nice! So i am already looking forward to practising tomorrrow and of course to the weekend – another boating day is planned!
First school days
August 11th, 2011 by MagdalenaWell the first two school days were not amazing. The school is huge and i had trouble with finding the classes and understanding what the teachers were talking about. I exspected the students to be more outgoing and friendly but to be honest it was difficult to start a conversation with somebody. My exspectations were maybe too high, because I was told that exchange students are usually very welcome and everybody wants to hang out with them. But that’s not the case. I hope it will get better soon!
